the culture-walker
the greatest of adventures all
is my human fellows big and small
i sensed it and it made me stop
from when i was a little crop
i liked it as it made me think
and feel and link
what i knew and what i felt
to try and make ice melt
language, fashion, tradition
interest and superstition
or colder and more objective
common selection objectives
cannot be disentangled or one of the other free
cannot be without places or its history
do we call it culture, civilizations
or sometimes nations
clashes and admiration
violence and liberation
idiosyncratic and largely chance
earth’s histories great undirected and arbitrary evolutionary and eternal dance
when i speak, when i immerse
as when i’m singing or when writing verse
it makes me slow
and by this virtue grow
new challenges and dreams,
ever changing streams
what part of me is it
what part of it am I
after travels I migrated
too shortly and not saturated
but I came back grown
had adventure stories of my own
living with and being part of two
cultures was the natural next to do
and look now here i am
doing, trying the best I can
the greatest of adventures all
is my fellow humans fat and tall
since they talk to you
as knowledge, maybe the next big adventure cannot do
the greatest of adventures all
I answered its eternal call
have not forgotten where i’m from
and still i hear the call so strong
I see clearer who we are
I see clearer what is human
do I
need to travel and immerse till the very end
the tertium comparationis is the viewpoint from outside
which allows you to reflect alight
what part is it of me
what part is it of you
what part is it of us
that which we call culture
the thousand colored mixtures of elements of individual and group selection?
bound to places and histories?
we all have our biases
we all have our aliases
